Microsoft's upcoming origami project

Is Microsoft's "Origami" project a handheld device that you may be able to play Halo on? In this little advert/test video/whatever it sure looks like. Microsoft did confirm that they were involved in the making of this video but that is was from a year ago. God I hope so. If the final product looked like that, no one would buy it. Fear of looking less cool than Sony PSP and Nintendo DS tote-ers would keep consumers far away. That thing is way to big to be cool. Sure it would be fun to get osme portable Halo gaming in but I don't want the whole friggin world to know I have one and I don't want to sacrifice one arm just to lug it around everywhere because it doesn't fit in my pocket. The only good that comes out of this is the confirmation of sorts that Microsoft is building some sort of handheld device. It's perfect if you think about it. Sony is going after Microsoft's Xbox Live service by building an online service of their own and Microsoft is going after Sony's PSP but building their own "handheld" device. When I say handheld, think first generation cell phone handheld. Fugly.

Full Auto review

Maybe my expectations we set a little low by reading the somewhat negative reviews onling gaming site were giving Sega's Full Auto, or maybe my eye isn't as critical. I'm not sure but I do know that playing Full Auto is one heck of a good time. The game looks nice, sounds nice and even plays pretty nice.

The game is filled with little touches that, overall, add up to a fun experience. If your going pretty fast and you take a dramatic jump, the game automatically replays the jump from a different angle while letting you control your car the whole time. The boost looks pretty intense too, everything turns into a blur for a few brief moments while you pray you don't slam in to a wall and self destruct. If you like self-destruction, fret not, you can blow yourself up too in hopes of damaging an opponent. Nice.

This isn't some souped up twisted metal clone either. One of the features that's different in this game is the Unwreck feature. Don't like the way you took that turn and slammed into that oil tanker? If your unwreck meter is full enough, go back in time a few seconds to right before you took the turn and alter your course just enough to not crash and burn. Unwrecking is so useful, you might try to do it too much. The game won't let you go too crazy with it though, it keeps you in check.

I haven't unlocked all there is to unlock yet and I haven't really explored online play yet but I figured that I'd post my review. Overall, it's a damn fun game where the gameplay boils down to drive fast, come in first and blow everything up. Does the gameplay get tired after a while? It hasn't for me yet, I still dig it. This is one of the most fun Xbox 360 games I've played so far (I've played Call of Duty, Kameo, Prerfect Dark Zero and Condemned). The graphics are good, the gameplay is still solid for me and I just flat out have a good time with it.

Halo Pistol for sale

Need to complete your Halo firearm collection? Make sure you pick up this Halo Pistol replica that looks awsome. Try taking that one into an airport or bank.

First Official Spider Man 3 image

They say he's wearing the black and white costume in this picture, I don't think he is since the spider logo is different on the black and white costume. Either way this pic is damn cool. What's that reflection in his eye?

[bigger picture]

UPDATE!!!

The suit is black so says Sony themselves. When there's a black costume, Venom isn't too far behind. I wonder if this is kind of an indeirect confirmation of Venom being in Spider Man 3.

Ryu Ga Gotoku coming this summer

Seag'a critically acclaimed Yakuza title Ryu Ga Gotoku (in Japan, it'll be just Yakuza when it debuts here) is going to be coming to the US and Europe this summer for the Playstation 2 only. There's a lot of people looking forward to this game an Sega has done a lot to promote it including creating a little film to fill in some backstory. Here's what the game will be about:

In a society where respect and honour hold great importance, there is an even higher regard for these traits within the one organisation that is most feared by all: the Yakuza. Kiryu Kazuma - a former rising star in the Yakuza who is rebuilding his life after serving a 10-year prison term for murder - suddenly finds himself caught in a spiralling underworld plot involving a mysterious girl known as Haruka and 10 billion missing Yen. Kazuma must use his fists and his wits to stay alive as he unravels a complex web of truth and lies that surrounds the notorious Yakuza.

Video Game ref loves his parents but is that love mutual?

Robert Mruczek is a video game referee who judges who holds what record in what game. He watches scores of tapes people submit of games of every kind, from old school titles like joust and pac man to new school games like Halo. HE even started giving financial rewards for those who beat current records. As fun as being a referee would be, still lives with his parents in a shared apartment. Not that there's anything wrong with that but man...that can't be too fun.

new Gears of War screens

Probably the most anticipated Xbox 360 game is the upcoming Gears of War. Why? Basically it looks amazing and dark and creepy and fun to play...kind of. We haven't really seen all that much in terms of some real gameplay but if I had to go on screenshots alone, I'd say Gears of War is looking mighty fine. Check out these new screenshots. It's like playing a flippin comic book almost.

Ghost Recon Advnaced Warfighter trailer

With this new Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter trailer, you get a look at how the multiplayer play is going to work. Looks like you get to use some sort of unmanned drone that helps you scope out the area. Looks like a pretty fun game to play and one in which having a microphone will be essential to online play.

FarCry Instincts Predator footage

Xboxyde put up some in-game footage of the upcoming Xbox 360 Far Cry Instincts Predator. It looks awsome. Best in-game water ever.

Virtua Fighter 5 movies

Coming to a Playsation 3 near you (in a few months at least) is the just about to be released arcade game Virtua Fighter 5. This series has been around and this version seems to be an obvious improvement over previous iteraitons. Check out the latest Virtua Fighter 5 trailers and videos.

Check out Wolf in the old screen shot and how he looks in Virtua Fighter 5. Hoorah for technology!

Get Oblivion goodies in the Xbox Marketplace

Bethesda has released some Elder Scrools IV: Oblivion goodies via the Xbox Marketplace. You can get an Oblivion theme, gamer pictures and even a trailer. All together it would cost you about 350 points.

God of War 2 coming to Playstation 2?

Eurogamer got a hold of some leaked Sony marketing information and posted the goodness on their site. They had to take it down shortly after they put it up when Sony threated legal action. Sounds like what they leaked is somewhat true then so thank the gaming gods Gamasutra got a hold of the info before it was taking down. The goods are that God of War 2 will be released February of 2007 for the PS2 starring Kratos and giving him some new abilities, like flight.

Some info was also leaked on Gran Turismo 4 Online Edition which will supposedly be released in the 2nd quater of this year and allow all kinds of online racing goodness. Killzone for the PSP, which is going to be a direct sequel to the original PS2 Killzone, was also mentioned as being released on November 3rd.

Halo 3...definitely maybe

Microsoft Game Studios general manager Shane Kim chatted with Next Generation recently about the Xbox 360 and the ever elusive Halo 3. He totally stops short of confirming anything but c'mon, the fact that Halo 3 is coming has got to be the worst kept secret ever. We know it exist Bungie! And we're damn excited about it no matter how you try to hide it. Back to Shane Kim, he basically states that Halo 3 won't be coming out until it's the game they all want it to be. It probably wouldn't hurt if more people had Xbox 360s either.

Here's the Halo 3 chatter:

Next Generation: Let's talk about Halo 3. What are we up to?

Shane Kim: I call it The Mythical Halo 3 - we haven't announced any such game yet! Obviously the Halo franchise is very important to us. When you have Bill Gates being quoted fairly constantly, talking about a game, you know it's important to the company. But his recent comments reflect the position accurately. Which is that, if there were a Halo 3 we would be careful about how we announce and introduce it.

It's exactly the same way we talked about Halo 2, where people wanted it a year after Halo. That would not have accomplished anything.

Is it coming out this year?

It depends. If it's the game that everyone is expecting then, yes. For us it's about making a proper impact on the platform. It has to be something with huge significance, so we won't be rushed.

We don't want all the hype and speculation to overshadow some of the great titles that do have coming this holiday and thereafter. Gears of War has an incredible level of anticipation. I think it has more anticipation than Halo did before Halo came out.

If you remember the E3 before the launch [of Xbox] a lot of people were not sure that Halo would be so great. We learned a lot of lessons at that E3. We chose not to show a lot of titles at this past E3. For people

He also talks up the next wave of Xbox 360 titles, Gears of War, Crackdown, Mass Effects and the like.

Needler ammo for sale

This enterprising chap built himself quite the Needler. It looks pretty slick which may be why he isn't selling the gun itself but rather just the ammo. What the heck are you going to be able to do with just the ammo? I would think you would look pretty weird just throwing crystals at people. If you only had a Needler too.

I want to see the Silent Hill movie

So if you have movie studio hookups, hook me up! This one looks like it may actually be a pretty creepy movie, hopefully somewhat keeping a tone similar to the Silent Hill games. The games were creepy and all but I hated the fact that I couldn't progress at a reasonable pace in that game without a freaking strategy guide. This picture looks damn slick. Whoever that kid is he's dragging is probably going to be mentally scarred, I know I would have been. Here's the trailer, http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/silenthill/.

Meet the new real-life Lara Croft

I must say Eidos picked an awsome woman to play the real-life Lara Croft for the next few years. I approve.

It's Official...Playstation 3 to not ship with Hard Drive

Looks like the Sony liked the Xbox 360's idea of not including a hard drive with the console so much, they're going to do the same with the Playstation 3. On this screen shot on Sony's offical playstation site use the arrows to the right to to scoll down and witness the disappointment first hand. Oh well...at least it looks like you will still be able to hook up 7 controllers. Somewhere in there is a joke about seven people playing with boomerangs. I'm just too sad to care...

Nintendo DS gets new features

The Nintendo DS gets a wee bit handier by adding an internet browser and a digital TV tuner to its feature set. The tv tuner is good and all but how good will or can it look on the DS's not so crisp screen?

F.E.A.R coming to the Xbox 360?

God I hope so. Why? Because it looked like a damn good game but I really didn't feel like spening the thousands of dollars need to upgrade my pc to be able to play it. Apparently F.E.A.R shares a lot of the technology that went into the Xbox 360's Condemned (which looked pretty smooth and apparently played pretty well from what I've heard), which would make porting the game to the Xbox 360 eaiser than...well...eaiser than porting it from scratch I guess. Here's to hoping.

(seen on joystiq)

Speaking of screenshots...

Here are some new ones for the upcoming Xbox 360 MotoGP Ultimate Racing Technology. So far, this one is looking mighty fine. Almost fine enough to make me want to play it....almost.

Mother 3 screenshots

The Mother 3 teaser site updated recently, making a few screenshots available for the public. Nothing too crazy but it's a first look.

Halo 2 promotes Vista

It seems as if Microsoft is looking to Halo 2 to build up some interest in their upcoming operating system Vista. No word on whether the pc gamers will be able to play the console players who will most likely be playing Halo 3 anyway but here's the press release...

Master Chief Dual-Wields His Way to Windows Vista

“Halo 2,” the award-winning sequel to the instant classic “Halo: Combat Evolved” to make its PC debut on the Windows Vista platform

”Halo 2,” the game that redefined first-person combat and multiplayer action for millions of gamers worldwide, is set to explode onto PCs exclusively for Windows Vista. ”Halo 2” for Windows Vista will be developed by a dedicated Microsoft Game Studios team in partnership with Bungie Studios.

Only for Windows Vista, “Halo 2″ will offer gamers both the single-player campaign and multiplayer experience of the original, as well as the additional maps offered in the “Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack.” Gamers will also have the exciting opportunity to build, create and customize their own multiplayer levels.

“Halo: Combat Evolved” and its sequel, “Halo 2,” have achieved phenomenal success on the Xbox video game platform as gamers around the world follow the saga of Master Chief in his battle against the Covenant forces. In 2003, the original “Halo” roared onto Windows PCs. In “Halo 2” for Windows Vista, the action picks up where the first game ended. Master Chief, with the help of a small group of marines, has destroyed the religious artifact and artificial world known as “Halo,” and is making his way back to Earth. There, he and the last surviving Earth forces will mount a titanic struggle against the marauding Covenant enemy. To date, the Halo franchise has sold more than 14.5 million games worldwide with over 600 million hours of multiplayer action logged across Microsoft’s Xbox Live online gaming service.

Frankie at Bungie posts some on Halo 2 coming to Vista and the fact that they will leave most of the hard work up to the other internal Microsoft team they're teaming up. Is it coming to Macs? It's a possibility but it's not looking too good so far.

Nintendo DS Lite get some color

ohh pretty...Looks like there's going to be at least three colors initially, crystal white, ice blue and enamel navy (pictured). sweet.

Now when can I pick up my neon green PSP?

When books make too much money...

Enter the Da Vinci Code game which looks anything but fun to play.

Insight into the Playstation 3's graphic ability

Apparently the tech demo this company gave of what they could do with the Playstation 3 actually had people looking away due to it being too graphic. You don't get to see anything too crazy and the company, Kuju Entertainment, even noted that this may not be possible in their game, so far dubbed "Redwood Falls", but since Sony is still maintaing that the PS3 is coming out this spring, we should be getting some in-game examples or demo any day now....any day.

Girls in gaming

Nice article here that totally blows out the "pink box" theory of developing games for girls. The "pink box" theory being something along the lines of, if we make it pretty and pink then girls will want to play it. The girls in this article or tweens or young teens who play counter strike, and whoop some serious a$$ it seems.

A-Play's logged 37 kills so far. And she's only been playing for 15 minutes. The boys, ejected from the oversized leather chairs to make room for the gals, gather around A-Play, aka 12-year-old Arielle...

Not only do they show and prove their leet skillz, they also inspire fear in the hearts of the male counterparts...

So, how do they feel about these girls gaming?

"Waste of time," says one boy.

Care to put your name to that bold statement?

"No, you better not," cautions another pre-teen boy. "You'll get your ass kicked."

Kicked indeed.

UMDs coming with DVDs

Looks like Sony is going to start bundling UMD movies with their DVD counter part. This makes a lot of sense and people will probably dig it since these bundles will run about 28.95. UMD movies alone cost close to $30.00 so getting the DVD and UMD for the price of one UMD is pretty smart. Also noted inthis article is that Sony announced that Blu-Ray DVDs will cost less than $25.00 when they do decide to come out. No word on price of the players though or the PS3 release date (you know I was looking!)

Fight Night Round 3

It looks so purty! Lots of footage and a list of the playable fighters. Dig it.

Xbox 360 is anti UK

How else would you explain how hard it is to get one there? How is this acceptible?

News dump

Let's jump right into the Playstation 3. Apparenlty, Sony is looking to make a big splash in the online console gaming space which has so far been ruled with an iron fist by Xbox Live. Apparently they are gunning for XBL and plan on matching XBL feature for feature as well as introducing a host of other features. There's talk of the Playstation 3 coming with full DVR capability and the ability to play contnt from your Playstation 3 on your other devices, which I'm sure Sony is hoping includes their PSP. Should Micosoft's Xbox team be worried? I would be since the Playstation's built in user base is huge by default (over a bajillion PS2s sold). It's good that's Sony now seems to be getting just how big the whole concept of Xbox Live is to the future of gaming itself. I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out.

Before I forget, I got sent Perfect Dark Zero a while back but since I didn't have an Xbox 360 to play it on, it sat and gathered dust for a bit. Well, I got a chance to play it recently a week or two ago....and I haven't played it since. The game just felt sluggish to me. There just seemed to be a lot going on that I didn't care about. The levels are huge and nice looking and all but I found myself becoming dependent on the floor arrows that appeared to show you the right way to go. It was alright but I wouldn't go past renting it.

"Halo 3 will be out before X'mas 2006. Exact words were Quarter 4 of 2006."

Meet the Microsoft Xbox Live aliens! (wtf?!?) IT sounds funny but due to my lack of proper codecs on this box, I couldn't see any pictures. Found some here though.

The Nintendo DS gets an extreme makeover and drops some weightage and picks up a new name, the Nintendo DS Lite.

Looks like James "Terminator 2" Cameron is getting into the MMO space to promote his next venture. How many MMOs can the public take?

return of game-hawg

why the break? because I'm still not sure how I where I want to take this blog. I got caught up in the whole traffic and numbers thing. Since I don't have the time to really pump out articles all day, I'll do the best I can to at least bring you something everyday. also, if you want to write for this blog for no pay (not now at least) feel free to let me know. with that being said...onto the content!
